As we move through summer, consider what experiences you want to create for yourself and your family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe it’s a weekly family dinner outdoors. Lifestyle Living with Jen","og_description":"Summer has a way of reminding us that some of life’s best moments don’t require a plane ticket, a luxury resort, or a packed itinerary. While I love helping clients discover incredible destinations around the world, I’ve learned that some of the most memorable experiences happen right at home. When I think back on the summers that stand out the most, I rarely remember the to-do lists. Instead, I remember evenings spent on the patio long after sunset, impromptu gatherings with neighbors, family cookouts that stretched into laughter-filled conversations, and quiet mornings with a cup of coffee before the day began. The truth is that a well-lived summer isn’t necessarily about going more places. Sometimes it’s about creating a lifestyle that allows us to slow down enough to enjoy the place we’re already in. The Backyard Becomes the Destination One of the biggest lifestyle shifts I’ve noticed over the past few years is the way people are reimagining their homes. Buyers aren’t simply looking for square footage anymore. They’re looking for spaces that support the life they want to live. Patios have become outdoor living rooms. Fire pits have become gathering places. Covered porches have become favorite summer offices. Homes are no longer just where we return after the adventure. Increasingly, they’re becoming part of the summer lifestyle. Whether you have a large backyard, a cozy patio, or a simple deck, the goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating an environment where people feel welcome and comfortable enough to stay awhile. A few string lights, comfortable seating, fresh flowers, and a favorite playlist can transform an ordinary evening into something memorable. Hosting Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing that hosting required elaborate menus, perfectly decorated tables, and weeks of preparation. The best hosts understand something different. People remember how you made them feel far more than they remember what you served. A casual barbecue, a backyard game night, a simple charcuterie board, or even coffee on the porch can become meaningful when the focus is on connection rather than presentation. One of my favorite summer traditions is inviting friends over without turning it into a major event. The invitation is simple: come as you are, bring a lawn chair if you’d like, and let’s enjoy the evening together. A relaxed atmosphere often creates the most authentic conversations. Designing a Summer Lifestyle Living well doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally create space for the things that matter most. As we move through summer, consider what experiences you want to create for yourself and your family. Maybe it’s a weekly family dinner outdoors. Perhaps it’s exploring local parks and hidden gems close to home. Maybe it’s committing to unplugging for an hour each evening or could it be gathering friends around a fire pit once a month. The specific activity matters less than the consistency. Small traditions often become the memories we treasure most. This philosophy is something I talk about frequently through Lifestyle Living With Jen. Whether we’re discussing travel, homeownership, personal growth, or community, the common theme is creating a life that feels rich with experiences rather than simply filled with activities. The Luxury of Presence In the travel industry, people often ask me what luxury means today. My answer has changed over the years. Luxury isn’t always about five-star hotels or first-class flights. Sometimes luxury is having time. It’s having meaningful conversations and sharing meals with people you care about. It’s watching a summer sunset without feeling rushed. It’s that summer lifestyle people crave. Those moments are available whether you’re relaxing on a Caribbean beach or sitting in your own backyard. The setting may change, but the feeling is remarkably similar. The most fulfilled people I’ve met throughout my travels understand this. They don’t wait for vacations to start living well. They build elements of that lifestyle into their everyday lives. Summer in Our Own Backyard Living in and around Monroe County gives us plenty of opportunities to embrace this mindset. From waterfront sunsets and local parks to farmers markets and community events, there are countless ways to create memorable experiences without traveling far from home. When we begin viewing our homes and communities as places to enjoy rather than simply places to pass through, everything changes. The backyard becomes a gathering place. A patio becomes a retreat. The neighborhood becomes part of the experience. And summer becomes less about checking destinations off a list and more about creating a life we genuinely enjoy with that summer lifestyle we are seeking. Final Thoughts As summer unfolds, I encourage you to think beyond vacations and weekend plans. Consider how you can intentionally design your days, your spaces, and your gatherings to reflect the lifestyle you want to live. Because at the end of the season, the memories that matter most are rarely the result of perfection. They’re usually the result of presence. Open the patio door. Invite someone over. Watch the sunset. Share a meal. Stay a little longer. That’s where living well begins.","og_url":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724","og_site_name":"Lifestyle Living with Jen","article_published_time":"2026-07-16T14:31:44+00:00","og_image":[{"width":2048,"height":1365,"url":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/people.jpg","type":"image\/jpeg"}],"author":"Jenny Macleod","twitter_card":"summary_large_image","twitter_misc":{"Written by":"Jenny Macleod","Est. reading time":"4 minutes"},"schema":{"@context":"https:\/\/schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"Article","@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724#article","isPartOf":{"@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724"},"author":{"name":"Jenny Macleod","@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/#\/schema\/person\/470f2de3c9d94e67301f91ffb62376e4"},"headline":"Designing Summer at Home: Hosting, Gathering, Living Well","datePublished":"2026-07-16T14:31:44+00:00","mainEntityOfPage":{"@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724"},"wordCount":880,"commentCount":0,"publisher":{"@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/#organization"},"image":{"@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724#primaryimage"},"thumbnailUrl":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/people.jpg","articleSection":["Lifestyle Living","Real Estate"],"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"CommentAction","name":"Comment","target":["https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724#respond"]}]},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724","url":"https:\/\/lifestylelivingwithjen.com\/?p=724","name":"Designing Summer at Home: Hosting, Gathering, Living Well -
